Assemblage
In the tradition of Schwitters and Cornell, two giants in the world of Assemblage, my boxed, portable mini-installations recreate and capture some residue of the past. Discarded material and rubbish fascinate and intrigue me, they have a life of their own, and their unique aesthetic value. There is more of it now in the world than ever before in human history, and in the process of framing it I try to reconcile the beauty and the ugliness that surround us all. Despite the evocative titles I give my mini-installations, despite the imagery I thus create, my thinking is rather visual and purely abstract, in the sense that every element I use has a colour value, a hue, a lightness and weight similar to the qualities that oil paint has for a painter, since that's who I really am.
